Is There Any Such Thing As An Easy Diet?
The “D” word, it brings so many thoughts to mind. The search for the very elusive easy diet plan seems to be Americas favorite past time. This is an attempt to answer the question, is there even such a thing as an easy diet?
Many people have tried and failed miserably going on diet after diet seeking that final plan that will finally be “the one”. Marketers love to tell us just how easy dieting can be, selling us easy diet recipes, easy diet meals and countless other quick and easy weight loss solutions. Unfortunately the only way that most people experience losing weight is in the pocket were they keep their wallet.
Let me just come right out and say it, there are no easy diets. Dieting is not easy; the very idea behind dieting is to cut down the list of foods we will allow ourselves to eat. Often whole food groups are cut out entirely and this approach as we all know is extremely difficult to succeed at. Dieting goes against our very nature, it wasn’t long ago when there wasn’t a fast food restaurant at every corner.
Our bodies were designed to survive in extremely harsh conditions and are able to go long periods of time with little or no food. The way the body does this is when there is an abundance of food, then the excess is stored as body fat, when times are lean then our bodies burn the fat for fuel. So the question is what happens when there aren’t any lean times and food is always abundant?
The answer is it depends on what kind of food you eat and how often you eat it. Sounds simple but it can be extremely complex if you listen to every diet guru that comes out with a new book or program. Eating whatever you want whenever you want is why most people are overweight and looking for a diet solution in the first place. The reason the diet gurus are so successful is because they make losing weight sound so easy. The truth is it may be simple but it sure isn’t easy and that’s the distinction.
The diet plans that are sold say just cut out this and add that and eat this many times, but they hardly ever work-just look at all of the failed new years resolutions-. There truly is only one easy diet and that is the easy healthy diet or rather the simple healthy diet. Rather than looking for the latest miracle pill or diet drink, look to what has worked for 10,000 years.
Simple, basic, unprocessed foods that are high in nutrient value and raised naturally are the only way to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Cutting out certain foods may work for awhile but at what cost? Sooner or later you come against nature; your body will crave the foods you desire so veraciously, your will power alone won’t stand a chance. So the question is, if I’m craving chips and ice cream how can eating better reduce my cravings?
Often times not getting the foods our bodies need, like fresh fruits and vegetables, healthy fats from fish and avocadoes, and lean protein from organic sources is what actually causes these weird cravings. When our bodies have cravings it is usually a signal that our bodies aren’t getting certain nutrients they need. Often times we misinterpret what those cravings are and just stuff some junk down our throats.
Eating healthy can be difficult if you’re used to eating junk but part of the reason is because your body is out of whack. You begin by slowly introducing healthy foods in small increments and add more and more as time goes on. The body will begin to regulate itself again and believe it or not you will crave healthy foods and junk food will no longer appeal to you, especially if you begin an exercise program.
So I’m sorry to say there really is no easy diet. Maybe in a few years there really will be a magic diet pill but until then, good old fashioned healthy eating will have to do.
