Extreme Weight Loss Is Possible But Can Be Very Dangerous
The weight loss and diet industry is a forty billion dollar plus per year industry so I know weight loss is on many Americans minds. Many people are so desperate to loss weight they’re willing to try an extreme weight loss diet that may get you to loss weight but often times at an extremely high price.
Some people are looking to lose a few pounds or would like to put a couple pounds of muscle on, and this probably isn’t about you. For the other few million that have tried every kind of new diet or exercise program on the planet but have yet to achieve or maintain your achievement, pay attention.
Any plan that includes extreme weight loss as the primary goal is at very least a horrible idea; at worst it could be deadly. Extreme weight loss diets usually involve ideas like severe reductions of calories, drugs-legal and illegal- and even starvation. Other tactics include surgery like gastric bypass, liposuction and lap band.
The worst part of this is the diet industry is just exacerbating the problem by selling many products that aren’t proven to work well or at all in many cases. By the time someone has read ten diet books, tried everything from hoodia to prescription amphetamines for appetite suppression like phentermine, and pay thousands of dollars for gym memberships, I can see why people might turn to an extreme weight loss plan.
The problem- When your body experiences an extreme reduction in calories it goes in to survival mode. The metabolism drops through the floor, and your metabolism is really your only friend in the weight loss game. Even if you manage to lose weight with an extreme weight loss plan, you almost always gain the weight back and often times a little extra. Other more serious problems can occur as well such as liver and kidney issues, severe fatigue, and muscle loss.
The solution- I’m sorry but old fashioned eating healthier foods and exercising the body are still the only way to get and maintain a lean body, unless there is an underlying medical condition of course. The first thing you need to ask yourself is why you are trying to lose weight, especially if you’re considering extreme weight loss. There is a huge list of factors like proper sleep, reducing stress, taking some time for your self, and of course eating healthy and exercise. This is why losing weight is less about weight loss and more about healthy living.
Ultimately the way to succeed is to make the decision to live a healthy lifestyle and all that entails. Usually we search for all the answers, and if we get them then we will take action but it works the exact opposite way. Take the first step, slowly improve your lifestyle on step at a time if you need to and you will be shocked at how you look and feel inside and out.
