Overcome Anxiety
Anxiety is a psychological and sometimes physiological state in which we are affected on a cognitive and behavioral level. I would like to discuss a little about anxiety, how it manifests, and most importantly, how to overcome anxiety.
Many people suffer from anxiety related issues and don’t even realize it. Usually anxiety begins to manifest as a subtle uneasiness that compounds over time. Feelings of fear, mood swings, and worry begin to set in.
Anxiety can actually and I believe is a healthy human reaction under normal conditions. Anxiety is meant to prepare us for future events by giving us a sense of urgency and applies some pressure which allows us to focus. Anxiety only begins to become a problem when it becomes excessive.
It is important to distinguish between anxiety and fear. Fear usually is related to immediate circumstances that require immediate attention. There are also different categories of anxiety, such as, public speaking, test anxiety, and social anxiety.
In order to overcome anxiety it is necessary to first identify it. Some physical symptoms might be, fatigue, nausea, shortness of breathe, and even reduced digestive function and immune system failures. In extreme cases, some have full blown panic attacks, and some have even had heart attacks.
Although studies show, that in some cases, anxiety disorder is related to areas of the brain such as the hippocampus and the amygdala, the majority of the cases of anxiety disorders can be squelched or even eliminated. There are a few techniques to reduce the affects of anxiety depression and symptoms.
In some cases anxiety treatment includes the use of drugs, but most cases can benefit by relaxation and meditation techniques. Taking some portion of every day to spend time alone in meditation for fifteen to twenty minutes can work miracles. Taking part in regular relaxing activities like walks in the park, listening to soft music, or spending time with friends and family is important. Getting a good night of sleep on a regular basis will help a great deal with daily stress. Eating a healthy, well balanced diet will give you the focus and energy to deal with your daily responsibilities as well.
Anxiety is usually something that builds up over time when we are stressed out in our daily lives. When things become stressful, that’s the time to lean on those who are important in our lives. Ultimately we are the ones who are responsible for our physical and mental well being, and if you won’t take care of yourself, who will?
